Email for Dummies

I received an email at work today from a client. She had attached an Excel file to it that was a poster that she wanted us to print for her. I saved the file, then deleted it from the email, because it was a large file and we have an Inbox size limit in Lotus Notes. I didn’t think anything of it, because that’s what I always do.

An hour later, I received an email from a different client. As I was opening it, I saw that the previous email still was listed as being over 1MB in size. So I opened it, too. There was still an attachment listed. I knew I’d deleted it, so I looked closer. I discovered that she’d attached the file to an email which she forwarded to me that already had the same file attache to it.

It’s good to know you’re valuable

Earlier this week I was talking with the Small Docs manager at our SuperStore up the street about different open positions in the company, and he asked why I didn’t apply for the open Docutech Operator position he had. I told him that I love what I do and where I do it, and that getting my boss to approve my transfer from this location to his would be like trying to pull teeth from a rabid badger. I figured that was the end of it and didn’t think about it any more.

Well, I just got off the phone with him. He told me that he decided he wanted me for that position, so instead of trying to convince my boss to let me transfer, he’d go over her head. Yeah, that didn’t work. He got laughed at. He was told that I was her pet, and that pulling me from the Nameless Merchant would essentially kill the contract with them. Since they do over $1M per year, losing the contract would be a bad thing.
